George Green’s School in London is organizing a “Collective Fast” this Friday to raise money for Gaza, following a series of successful fundraisers for UNICEF’s Gaza Appeal for Children in Crisis. The initiative aims to gather funds for food, medical aid, and other resources, with students and staff encouraged to participate.

The school has already raised over £1,000 through events such as bake sales and sports tournaments. The goal for the fast is to reach £2,500, with participants asked to sign up and gather sponsorship. While the event is voluntary, it has sparked controversy, especially among Jewish parents. One parent of a Jewish student expressed concern that such events create a sense of “shame” and portray Judaism negatively.

The school’s principal, Jon Ryder, defended the event, stating it was well-supported by the community but reiterated that participation is optional.
