National Unity leader Benny Gantz has voiced strong opposition to the proposed truce between Israel and Hezbollah, calling it “half the job” and stressing the need for Israel to retain the freedom to act against the group without delays.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Gantz criticized the suggestion of submitting military actions to an international monitoring committee for approval before taking action. He argued that such a requirement would allow Hezbollah to exploit delays by targeting Israeli intelligence and repositioning its forces, thereby weakening Israel’s military advantage.
“The idea that we will report to the committee and only then take action is fundamentally flawed,” Gantz wrote. He further warned that any “temporary ceasefire” would merely provide Hezbollah with the opportunity to regroup and strengthen its position, making future military efforts more challenging.
Gantz also emphasized the toll the ongoing conflict has taken on Israel, citing the sacrifices made by soldiers, reservists, and civilians in the north, where many have spent over a year in bomb shelters due to continuous attacks from Hezbollah. He urged the government to seek a more decisive resolution that would ensure lasting peace and security for Israel’s northern border, rather than settling for what he views as a temporary and incomplete solution.
Gantz concluded by calling for a stronger agreement that would put an end to the ongoing threat posed by Hezbollah in the region.
