Israel’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz, has vowed that Israel will maintain its right to respond forcefully to any threats from Lebanon, even after a proposed ceasefire with Hezbollah is implemented. Katz made the statement during a meeting with Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, the UN Special Envoy for Lebanon, just before Israel’s security cabinet is set to approve the ceasefire following 14 months of fighting.

“We will act against any threat, anytime and anywhere,” Katz said, emphasizing Israel’s intent to continue its aggressive stance against Hezbollah. He warned that any efforts to rebuild homes in southern Lebanon that could be used to establish terrorist bases would be swiftly destroyed. Katz also made it clear that Israel would target any attempts by Hezbollah to rearm or regroup, disrupt weapons smuggling, and neutralize any threats to Israeli forces or citizens.

Katz called for “effective enforcement” of the ceasefire by the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), stressing the need for strong oversight measures to ensure Hezbollah does not violate the agreement by rearming or producing weapons. He firmly stated that Israel would not tolerate any violations of the ceasefire.

“If you don’t do it, we will,” Katz warned, signaling that Israel is prepared to take immediate and decisive action if necessary. His comments underline Israel’s determination to secure its borders and protect its citizens, irrespective of the terms of the ceasefire.
