President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Warren Stephens, CEO of the Arkansas-based investment bank Stephens Inc., to serve as the United States’ ambassador to the United Kingdom. Trump announced the nomination on Truth Social, expressing excitement that Stephens would represent the U.S. to one of its closest allies.

Stephens, a long-time supporter of Trump’s political ambitions, had donated millions to Trump’s re-election campaign in 2024. While he initially opposed Trump in the 2016 election, donating $4 million to groups opposing his candidacy, Stephens later supported Trump in this year’s Republican primary and has contributed to various Republican groups.

As ambassador, Stephens would play a key role in maintaining the strong “special relationship” between the U.S. and the UK, which includes extensive military, intelligence, and cultural ties. This diplomatic post is often awarded to prominent political supporters. Previous U.S. presidents, including Trump and Barack Obama, have appointed top donors and allies to the role.

In a statement, Stephens expressed pride in his nomination and emphasized his commitment to strengthening the U.S.-UK alliance. He and his wife, Harriet, also run a philanthropic foundation that supports various educational and cultural initiatives in Arkansas.
