The UK Army has successfully tested a new laser weapon system capable of destroying flying drones. The Ministry of Defence announced the successful trial, which took place at the Radnor Range in Wales. The laser, mounted on a Wolfhound armored personnel carrier, uses infrared light to track and eliminate drone targets with precision.

The system employs advanced sensors and tracking technologies to maintain real-time accuracy while directing a powerful infrared beam to destroy drones. The 16th Regiment Royal Artillery conducted the test, demonstrating the system’s ability to target and shoot down a flying drone.

Maria Eagle MP, Minister of Defence Procurement and Industry, praised the technology as a significant step in advancing the UK’s defense capabilities, highlighting Britain’s commitment to staying at the forefront of military innovation.

The laser weapon offers an advantage over traditional munitions, with virtually no limit on the number of “shots” it can fire. This makes it a potentially cost-effective alternative to other defense systems.

The weapon was developed in collaboration with the US Department of Defence, Raytheon UK, and several other defense organizations. It follows a series of recent military innovations, including the successful test of the SPEAR cruise missile for the Royal Air Force and Navy pilots.
