U.K. Defense Secretary John Healey suggested that British forces could be deployed to Ukraine to provide direct training to Ukrainian soldiers as part of ongoing military support. During his visit to Kyiv, Healey emphasized the need to tailor training to Ukrainian requirements, ensuring better access for recruits.

Since Russia’s invasion, tens of thousands of Ukrainian troops have already undergone training in the U.K. under “Operation Interflex.” Healey acknowledged the U.K.’s commitment to meeting Ukraine’s needs, stating, “They are the ones fighting.”

In addition to the training proposal, Healey announced a further £225 million in military aid for Ukraine. This includes £186 million in arms, such as loitering munitions and reconnaissance drones, alongside £39 million for anti-drone systems and protective gear. The financial support will be managed through the U.K.’s International Fund for Ukraine, which coordinates donations from several European nations.

Healey reaffirmed the U.K.’s strong backing for Ukraine, underscoring the miscalculation made by Russia’s President Vladimir Putin in launching the invasion. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also spoke with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, stressing the importance of Western unity in supporting Ukraine and ensuring its continued resilience.
