Yair Netanyahu, son of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has accused Israel’s Shin Bet security agency of trying to destabilize his father’s government, going as far as to allege they are torturing IDF soldiers. His statements, posted on X, come amid heightened scrutiny around the Prime Minister’s Office, which faces accusations of leaking classified intelligence and doctoring wartime meeting records.
Referring to recent Shin Bet actions, Yair questioned whether it was “the same Shin Bet” that has allegedly detained and mistreated IDF soldiers, as well as recently released Gazan prisoners, including what he termed as “the Gazan Dr. Mengele.” His comments allude to longstanding tensions between his father’s government and various Israeli institutions.
In further posts, Yair warned that the Shin Bet’s conduct, along with moves by prosecutors, the media, and courts, amounted to a “coup” against the public’s democratic choice. This echoes previous claims by the Netanyahu family that the legal case against the prime minister is politically motivated.
Additionally, Yair described the probes into the Prime Minister’s Office as a “blood libel” designed to distract the public from an alleged “junta” that, he claims, excluded his father from key deliberations on October 7. These allegations highlight ongoing political tensions within Israel and reveal a deepening mistrust of state agencies among the prime minister’s allies.
